Wedging clay eliminates air bubbles, ensures uniform consistency, and aligns clay platelets. These benefits lead to stronger, more workable clay, preventing issues like cracks or explosions in the kiln during firing.
Air trapped within the clay can cause problems during firing, leading to cracks or even explosions in the kiln. Wedging forces these air pockets out, creating a more stable and consistent material.
Wedging mixes the clay thoroughly, ensuring that moisture and particle distribution are even throughout. This is especially important when working with recycled clay or clay that has been stored for a while.
